This marks her second tenure at Zucker Hillside Hospital, where she previously served as Associate Director of Adult Ambulatory Services and Physician in Charge of Perinatal Programs from 2017 to 2019. In this role, she leads a multidisciplinary clinical team dedicated to providing comprehensive care to individuals throughout the critical perinatal period. Her leadership extends to regional public health initiatives; in 2026, she was appointed Chair of the Maternal Mental Health Workgroup for the Nassau County Perinatal Services Network, of which she has been an active member for many years.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tinkelman has consistently focused on the building of specialized clinical teams to serve perinatal populations across diverse healthcare settings. Her leadership background includes serving as the Director of the Partial Hospitalization Program at The Motherhood Center (2022–2024), and Medical Director for a private independent mental health practice (2019–2022) where she helped develop interventional and therapy programs for patients with complex needs. Dedicated to community mental health and addiction recovery, she also served as the Medical Director of Community Counseling Services of West Nassau, an OASAS substance abuse program, from 2011 to 2021. An educator and advocate, Dr. Tinkelman teaches and supervises C/L fellows, residents, and medical students at Hofstra/Northwell. Nationally recognized for her expertise, she has served as an instructor for the Perinatal Psychopharmacology portion of the Postpartum Support International (PSI) certificate course and was honored to collaborate on the development of PSI’s inaugural perinatal mental health certification exam in 2019. She frequently presents at PSI’s annual conferences, local Grand Rounds, and CME/CEU forums on perinatal mental health and the treatment of perinatal substance use disorders.
Dr. Tinkelman has pursued training in advanced therapeutic modalities, including Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS), and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. She completed her psychiatry residency at Hofstra NSLIJ, where she served as Chief Resident from 2011-2012, and earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. Her professional achievements include being named a New York Times “Rising Star” in their Top Doctors edition (2016–2019) and participating in Northwell’s Physician High Potential program.
